Samsung Mobile invited me to join their Galaxy Rising Stars pilot to create social media content. This was their second attempt at using “creators” to provide UGC (user-generated content) to feature. The group’s goal was to show Samsung products in real-life use, highlighting each device’s key features. They also gave creative briefs around themes—like 4th of July fireworks to show low-light camera performance.

Overview

Samsung Mobile was trying to win over Apple iPhone users with their latest devices. To do so, they wanted real users to create content for their social channels and highlight key features of certain devices, highlighting why they were better than iPhone. They had ran a pilot group prior to this one using agencies to produce content was overproduced and did not perform well because they weren’t perceived to be believable or trustworthy.

Problem

Following the creative briefs provided, I wanted to deliver high-quality assets that would generate impressions and recognition. Based on the feedback they received from their original pilot launch, I wanted to make sure any photos and videos were coming from the actual Samsung devices and did not want to be accused of using a higher-end camera to fake the shots.

Solution

THOUGHT PROCESS

I actually thought this was a scam when the program’s manager initially contacted me. I’m still not sure how exactly they found me, but I knew it was real after I received a box full of brand new Samsung devices and branded gift items welcoming me to the team. I made sure to keep the focus on the creative briefs and the specific features I was asked to highlight and not stray by trying to be too creative.

The content I produced for Samsung Mobile was featured several times on their Instagram, Facebook, Twitter (X), and TikTok accounts, generating millions impressions, thousands of likes, and hundreds of engagement. I wish they would have shared more metrics but they would not provide them after I asked. The program unfortunately ended after a year when the program manager left and her replacement didn’t give it the same level of support and attention.
